Shotokan Karate is the most prevalent traditional Japanese style karate in the world. The Santa Maria Valley Japan Karate Association (SMVJKA) Shotokan Karate dojo has four black belt Shotokan Karate instructors with a combined total of over 60 years in Shotokan karate. We are affiliated with the Japan Karate Association (JKA) and the International Traditional Karate Association and Master Hidetaka Nishiyama.

Who can participate in Santa Maria Valley Japan Karate Association’s Shotokan Karate Classes?

Anyone 12 years old and up can participate in Santa Maria Valley Japan Karate Association’s Shotokan Karate classes.  At the SMVJA dojo, age and physical limitations are not a handicap to participating in Shotokan Karate.  In fact - Karate is for everyone!
